The Stone Mountain camera trap project started in February 2022, when Jenny McGuire and Ben Shipley were approached by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association to develop a project highlighting the biodiversity of Stone Mountain Park (located near Atlanta, Georgia) for both researchers and the public. In January 2022, five camera traps were placed around Stone Mountain Park in order to discover which wildlife species live in the park and where they go throughout the year. In addition, we hope to create a learning module for students in Atlanta that highlights the biodiversity of the park and the city as a whole. As of February 2023, we have logged nearly 11,000 observations of more than 55 species at Stone Mountain, and we hope to get many more in the future!
